The weenies are out there

and they ARE out to get you. It’s been a weeny/weenies sort of week in a way.

It’s technically an appointment clogged week.

Big chunk of Monday afternoon, all days Tuesday and Wednesday and someone just popping in to collect something today chatted for an hour.

Not to mention Town Council last night.

And I’m actually in a get some work done mode.

Sometimes doesn’t happen as it should so getting in that zone and not being able to do anything much about it is a bit disappointing.

I suppose it’s just a “grass is always greener” feeling but even so.

Sigh.

Next we (I) sit here for a while

and try and tease out what it was I was going to write about.

Had two major chunks of “stuff” in my head about ten sentences ago and didn’t write it down as I remembered I need to phone a client and writing THAT down won out.

So…

what could it have been?

I expect the unpredictability of the UK weather was probably one topic.

Oh yes – and bl00dy computers was the other. So that’s all right then.

The weenies are definitely running the UK weather – or the forecasting thereof anyway.

The weather is such that I now consider this time of the year our monsoon season.

After a while you start to wonder if there can still be any moisture still up in the sky.

But last night the forecast was for torrential rain today – and I AM talking local forecast here.

But the day started clear and bright (after sunrise obviously) even though down the coast Lorraine’s place of work was fog bound.

And still.

Not a breath of wind that I could see.

A bit later it starts to get murky and I wonder if the fog has reached us too.

Then it gets a bit darker and you’re thinking it’ll be pouring down soon, no walk for me at lunchtime.

But no, it then clears up again and I have the post-lunch perambulation in glorious sunshine – bloody cold but very, very bright.

Where did that come from then?

And Lorraine had eschewed the motorbike in favour of the car on the back of said forecast…

Just remembered something else I need to let people know

but luckily I’ve noted the computer comment above so it hasn’t evaporated yet again.

I’m not at the absolute forefront of the technology boom I have to say.

I don’t find it necessary to have the latest phone/tablet/laptop as soon as they become available.

Mainly this is because I’m frankly tight as far as money goes.

If I don’t have to spend it I probably won’t (beer is an obvious exception here).

But I’m not a Luddite. Once someone has demonstrated the Mk.9 is superior to the Mk.8 (say) I’m in there when the introductory prices have softened.

Note to everyone out there – if you leave it for a while it almost certainly will be cheaper later.

Now I’ve had the new laptop for some while now.

It’s well built, fast and overall very good.

But it DOES use Windows 10.

Bit of history here – I never got to grips with Windows 8.

Like the vast proportion of the business community (that I’ve talked to anyway) I considered Windows 8 was an unmitigated disaster.

An operating system designed for tablets and phones and not for desktops and laptops.

So the old laptop was rolled back to Windows 7 and there it stayed.

It’s gotten old and clunky but I know where 99% of what I use can be found and it doesn’t drive me mental.

And when Microsoft were offering the free upgrade to Windows 10 there was a driver issue and after three abortive attempts, at Windows 7 it remained.

I know once forced to change I’ll be up and running in a few weeks and wondering what the problem was but it’s like the old, comfy pair of slippers you’ve had for years and years.

And the brand new ones sit in the cupboard until the old ones fall apart.

Well we now have the software equivalent of the falling apart – Microsoft will cease to support Windows 7 in just a few weeks.

Fait accompli time (not in the spellchecker, fait accompli not time – although it wouldn’t surprise me) I’ve got to change.

All that procrastinating must now come to an end.

Sigh.

Windows 10 – written by weenies, for weenies.

They really ARE out to get me…
