Case Study – Marine Software Sector
Our Client
A Marine software sector company with two Directors. Both Directors were originally from South Africa but lived in the UK, one in Hampshire and the other in the NE of England. Their Software developers were based in South Africa, and their clients were spread across the globe, with their largest one in Australia who was using their software for a major project in Canada. They had sales offices in Greece and the USA and Bank accounts in four different currencies.
Their Challenges
With a geographically diverse client base, a host of different bank accounts in different currencies and poor access to financial data (it could take three months just to get a bank statement!) they were finding it difficult to manage their business. Their challenges were further compounded by volatile exchange rates between the Pound and the Rand.
Case Study - UK Subsidiary of a German Fulfilment House
Our Client
Started out as the UK subsidiary of a German fulfilment house specialising in the mailing of written documents such as magazines. I was hired by the parent company, because of concerns about the long-term viability of the UK business.
Their Challenges
The company was saddled with massive overheads due to overly large premises and a suite of expensive leased machinery that was grossly underutilised. On the face of it, the only viable option appeared to be closure.
Case Study - A Local Charity
Our Client
A local charity which owns and manages a supported housing development in Hampshire. When I got involved the charity was administered by a well-meaning but financially naïve board of trustees.
Their Challenges
The charity had been operating for 50+ years and, in early 2008, had decided to borrow £750,000 to expand their development by building an adjacent, but separate, property. When the credit crunch hit, the bottom fell out of the property market, and the occupancy rate of the new building was hovering around 33%.
As a result, their ability to service their debt burden was, to say the least, challenging. The incumbent treasurer had left, and the trustees approached me to help put them back on a sound financial footing. I have been working with them ever since.
