Maybe I am a robot
Maybe I am a robot? Ticking the “not a robot” box before writing this I got to wondering.
You’ve probably realised this is not a good idea as you’re never quite sure which rabbit hole I might vanish down, but hey!
If I was a robot I suspect it would be Marvin the Paranoid Android from “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” by the late, great Douglas Adams.
The scariest thing is that the original radio series was aired 41 years ago…
I think you ought to know I’m feeling very depressed.
My favourite dialogue has to be:
Arthur “What do you do with a paranoid android?”
Marvin “What do you do if you ARE a paranoid android”
So what’s with the robot feelings today?
Can’t be the man flu which vanished for one day and returned with a vengeance.
Can’t be the jealousy that Die Tochter wasn’t feeling well so decided to fly to Gibraltar to visit her friend. Can it?
At least I don’t spend half my day getting her out of bed and the other half wondering what time it was she got to bed the night before…
And surely if I was I wouldn’t be feeling like nodding off the whole day like I have so far.
Maybe I am a robot
or maybe – back in a while. Client arriving.
That was better than maybe I was expecting.
They are having “issues” with a third party so sometimes the conversations can be an excuse to unload.
But no, not so bad.
And then Lorraine got back and the kettle obviously needed filling and the tea just had to be made.
So now it’s another two hours later (did something about said tiredness) and I no longer have the faintest idea what I was going to write about.
S’life…
Just remembered the Tin Man in “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”.
Massively glad I don’t remember the book coming out (1900) or even the well loved film (1939).
…”There were several roads near by, but it did not take Dorothy long to find the one paved with yellow bricks. Within a short time she was walking briskly toward the Emerald City; her Silver Shoes tinkling merrily on the hard, yellow road-bed “.
He wasn’t really a robot but he could have been. Except he was looking for a heart.
Just trying to work out when the term robot was first coined.
Ooooo 1920.
“R.U.R. is a 1920 science fiction play by the Czech writer Karel Čapek. R.U.R. stands for Rossumovi Univerzální Roboti. The English phrase “Rossum’s Universal Robots” has been used as a subtitle. It premiered on 25 January 1921 and introduced the word “robot” to the English language and to science fiction as a whole.”
Thank you Wikipedia.
Knew about this but I had to look out for the date.
Oh, hadn’t realised he also wrote “The Makropulos Affair”. Well I found it interesting anyway.
Maybe I am a robot and that’s why the sudden fascination.
Although the rabbit hole is “Alice in Wonderland” so I am seriously mixing my metaphors.
Still can’t remember where I was going with this so I’m going to quit before getting any further behind.
Off to Ipswich tomorrow as otherwise, what with daughter in Gibraltar and wife going to Bournemouth, I’d have had a possibly miserable weekend having to get my own food.
And it’s still bl00dy freezing out there. Well I am anyway.
