It’s nearly the weekend

What? Oh yes, it is if you don’t work Fridays. The weekend is automatically 50% longer, happens earlier and doesn’t quite disappear so quickly.

And if it is a Bank Holiday weekend it’s even longer!

Mind you I’m glad it’s been a slow-ish week as I’ve spent three hours networking and two and a half at a 1-2-1.

And that’s just this morning. Bulging eye emoji.

So I’m in that no-when time between prising (not in the spellchecker?) Die Tochter out of bed and getting her out of the door so I can play taxi.

Somewhere between a small essay and War and Peace sort of timeframe…

So I might as well start the blog. Technically gives me a bit of time back later but in reality I’ll probably be in nap mode when we return.

I’ll let you know once I get there.

I can hear sounds of cereal being poured in the kitchen so processes are happening – that small frisson of excitement when you realise you might be able to get some of your own “stuff” done soon.

Well hush my mouth…

I think there needs to be a freak weather warning – it looks like it will be warm and sunny at a Bank Holiday weekend.

Bad weather and bank holidays is a British institution – you know, like tea and scones and buses coming in threes.

So the jeans of this morning have been replaced by the shorts of this afternoon and the trainers have morphed into sandals.

That last sentence has just burgered my readability scores – all of a sudden I have 15.8% of my sentences containing a passive voice.

And suddenly that sentence has cured matters again. Nyah nyah nyah…

And now it’s nearly two hours later.

But that’s the parental stuff done for a few days.

Got to stand in H&M and Top Shop for a while – nearly up there with watching paint dry in the scheme of things – so ten out of ten for dad points.

Talking of watching paint dry – waiting for her to finish packing takes twice as long and may be half as exciting.

Originally wrote exiting. Might be that as well to be honest but exciting works best in a contextual relationship.

And done the taxi thing – daughter at railway station with an event in London then a music festival in Leeds so peace and quiet until Sunday.

Always assuming Lorraine doesn’t talk incessantly about the motor scooter she wants to get…

I live in hope (Hope). Actually I don’t – it’s in Derbyshire but I have been there and it has a very large cement works.

And now I’m tired. Dog tired. Nearly ten hours into my day and I am flagging – big time.

In fact now I’ve started yawning I almost cannot stop.

Thinking back to our little shopping expedition

it was amazing how many people there were around. Our town centre jams up the road network between about 12.00 and 14.00 so you just assume it will be busy then.

And weekend traffic can be a nightmare so I assumed the business today was because of the Bank Holiday weekend.

Which it may not be. I may have tomorrow off but to most people it is (presumably) a bog standard normal Thursday.

So why so many people about?

Okay the children are still on holiday – which will account for a lot of it – but it was still packed…

And so to nap

To finish, have you come across the TV Channel Dave’s top ten jokes from the Edinburgh Fringe? If not, here you are:

Dave’s 10 funniest jokes of the 2019 fringe

1. I keep randomly shouting out “Broccoli” and “Cauliflower”. I think I might have Florets. – Olaf Falafel

2. Someone stole my antidepressants. Whoever they are, I hope they’re happy. – Richard Stott

3. What’s driving Brexit? From here it looks like it’s probably the Duke of Edinburgh. – Milton Jones

4. A cowboy asked me if I could help him round up 18 cows. I said, “Yes, of course. That’s 20 cows.” – Jake Lambert

5. A thesaurus is great. There’s no other word for it. – Ross Smith

6. Sleep is my favourite thing in the world. It’s the reason I get up in the morning. – Ross Smith

7. I accidentally booked myself on to an escapology course; I’m really struggling to get out of it. – Adele Cliff

8. After learning six hours of basic semaphore, I was flagging. – Richard Pulsford

9. To be or not to be a horse rider, that is Equestrian. – Mark Simmons

10. I’ve got an Eton-themed advent calendar, where all the doors are opened for me by my dad’s contacts. – Ivo Graham

Love numbers 2 and 9 in particular myself…

And just a P.S. I understand from the daughter there has been a (small) backlash with joke 1. Buggered if I know why.
