This could be a short post…

I’ve got a day off tomorrow.

As usual this means I’m sitting here part way through more things than there’s time left of today to deal with…

The awaited phone call for instance. Phoned one of my business helplines late morning regarding a query. Email to client drafted and almost ready to go when I start overthinking matters and want an external opinion on my suggested solution. Message left and the person taking the message suggested it would probably be after lunch when I got the response. Which was why I ignored the incoming call eight minutes later – especially as the incoming number did not correspond to my outgoing one.

Wrong.

I pick up the message when I get back after my lunchtime stroll to find I should have answered it (the reluctance is due to the excessive number of “sales” type calls and an almost uncanny ability to spot a spam number and not answer it. But not this time. So I call back this afternoon and – guess what – all the advisers are on other calls. Which is why it’s now 40 minutes later and I’m still awaiting a reply.

S’life…

At least it’s encouraging me to write this post while I wait for the reply.

I could, of course, start the other most urgent of the other items but it’s complicated and I DON’T want to get my head wrapped around that and have to bring my brain cell back out of FRS 102-land and into VAT world when the call does – eventually – provoke a response.

Can anyone tell me why WordPress needs me to use the “justify” button on each damned paragraph rather than remembering from one to the next? Just annoys me. Hmmph.

50 minutes…

Several emails later as well as adding to this post and still no answer. Another aside – how many synonyms for reply can you come up with regarding a telephone conversation? I’m really starting to run out…

Went back to one of my favourite networking groups this morning for the first time since the operation. It’s a lot like you’ve never been away (which is probably a bit worrying) but also rather good. The jokes get no better – in fact some were really cringe worthy I’m delighted to say – but it’s nice to see the familiar faces even if some will never use my services in a million years.

One hour and I’m starting to get irritated. At what point does one assume they have overlooked the call and phone again – if it takes too much longer the “complicated” matter is not going to get the attention it so desperately needs and it will crash headlong into deadlines with client appointments. Or the day off partly disappears.

Bingo! Which may really confuse any non-UK readers but, hey!, a phone call of less than three minutes and all is sweetness and light and (coincidentally) I was right.

But soooo much better to have someone else concur.

That gentle feeling of relief that two hours brain work was not wasted and incorrect conclusions reached. Sigh. Which means the concentration can be ramped up in a while (might wait until Lorraine is in before doing too much as a way of preempting the likely distraction there – sorry dear I do enjoy hearing about your arguments with motorists, etc. honest). Procrastination as an art form I’ll have you know.
