Didn’t expect that…
Quay Fifteen restaurant, excellent lunch – highly recommenced) when one of my fellow diners shows me the announcement on her phone that the Chancellor has backtracked, done a full 180 about turn and reverted to the pre-budget position… Weird.
What to make of that?
I’m really not sure what messages that sends out to taxpayers. Actually I’m probably not the best person to comment in a way as I’ve a streak of cynicism as wide as the house I’m sitting typing in. But – it’s MY blog so it’s MY viewpoint you’re going to get! If you disagree get in touch. Is it just me or would I have just (eventually) shrugged and got on with life whereas, after the backtrack, I cannot decide whether the guy’s got no backbone and has caved in to public pressure or he’s been got at by his own party and ditto.
Doesn’t say much for the level of commitment to your own (or at least your department’s) policies. Does it?
Damned if you do and damned if you don’t should be added by double-damned if you can’t make your bloody mind up!!!
He hasn’t backtracked on the dividends as far as I can see and I would have thought that contravened the same manifesto promise as the NICs, unless reducing an allowance is quantitatively different from increasing a rate?
Semantics my friends… Ouch!
That wasn’t sensible – just had a sneezing fit and my nose is not so much running as sprinting. Then the phone call and not forgetting the discussion with Lorraine and I’ve COMPLETELY forgotten what I intended to write about next. Ho hum… Maybe just treat it as the TV does – and in other news…
This is the first day this week which will be shorter than ten hours – yesterday was the “worst” – waiting for Lorraine to come home so I could operate the garage door opener when she rides in on her motor bike, rather than making her get off said bike, open door after removing extraneous gloves, etc., etc. Out like a light for ten minutes before dinner and Town Council meeting – luxury! Sooooooooooooooo good.
Not sure I ought to tell you this – you may have realised my sense of humour is a little unusual – Garage door opener = zapper = Frank (Zappa). Our very own version of Cockney rhyming slang. If you’re under forty, try Wikipedia.
I tried looking for a Pixabay image of said musician and the nearest it came up with was a lighter – Zippo… go figure.
