Blank screen, blank brain

The good thing about setting a definite time each week in the diary is that it comes around like clockwork and one gets very, very used to dealing with the task as an integral part of the working week.

The bad thing is that, if brain fade hits, you end up staring at a blank screen with a brain that feels the same…

Ooooo, have just discovered I now have a justification tool on the toolbar! Don’t remember having had that before. I do so like my paragraphs to be justified – in a typesetting context even if not in the real world scheme of things!

Half of me is saying now’s the time for a nap, power or otherwise whereas the other half is expecting a horde of schoolboys to rush up the road and disappear into the grounds of the derelict property next door. No, I’ve not been hallucinating – this really did happen yesterday. Between 10-20 of them! Called 999 after dithering a while and then considering discretion to be the better part of valour – no way was I confronting them on my own, even if they were to prove to be harmless.

Impressively the police responded quite quickly – three cars and five officers – trudging across the same field as the kids had earlier. Luckily no damage caused and the horde had vanished to who knows where but they certainly hadn’t come back past me.

Lorraine had a chat with them as did our neighbours a few houses up and the suggestion is that, in future, we make a 101 call rather than 999 unless they are doing something dangerous. To which I find myself wondering – how will I be able to tell??? It’s not like a box of matches is ultra visible, especially if kept in a rucksack, and a plume of smoke will mean, I presume. I’ve left it too long…

Answers please.

Truly speaking it’s just another distraction and an excuse to procrastinate. Not that I need excuses.

Tried an evening networking event a couple of days ago. There is a happy band of pilgrims who go out and eat curry together once or twice a month and, since I know a few of the organisers and attendees, I’ve been meaning to attend for some time now. Almost attended a few weeks back but managed to (treble?) book myself and thought I’d pass that time.

This time the venue was a local tertiary college – not you might think the most obvious of places for an evening meal but I’d already fine dined there in the past with my Rotary club so I knew it was not what it seemed to the uninitiated! South Downs College near Purbrook or Waterlooville in Hampshire in case you are interested. Still is even if you’re not. I’ve just Googled the place and it’s fame is spreading wider – 4.5 out of 5 from 45 reviews on TripAdvisor I’ll have you know! Not what you might expect.

Nice meal, plenty of it, good craic (hmm, that’s a word not in the spellchecker…) and a fine time had  by all.

I wouldn’t want you, dear reader, to assume that all my networking is a bundle of laughs. Far from it. Take this morning at Business Builders in the Solent Hotel, Whiteley. The sight of a local financial adviser in a pink tutu with purple/pink wig was NO laughing matter! Glamorous assistant to the speaker today – Darren, I don’t think so… Never seen so many phone cameras trained on someone at the same time for absolutely ages! Bless.

Occasionally I even have time to work.

Or so it is rumoured.
