Tick tock
Avenue Business Services head on got reappointed as auditor.
Finally get in at nearly 14.00 – i.e., a 7.5hr day before getting in front of the computer…
Not only that but I normally demolish my lunch between 12.00-12.30 so very hungry.
Do you know there’s a known complaint? illness? syndrome? called “hanger” or “hangry”, with a hard ‘g’- I’m not diabetic because I’ve had it tested but I can get really, really stroppy if I do not eat when I’m expecting to eat, hence the concatenation of hunger and anger or hungry and angry. Doesn’t make for a relaxing time!
Just have to be careful – if I bolt the food too quickly that way hiccups lies and that’s almost as annoying as hanger.
Starting the rest of the day having done a full day (without break) beforehand leads to a conflict of emotions – the “what the heck, take the rest of the day off” a loud voice over the “let’s get some stuff out of the way because you’ve a short week next week” whisper…
Because I have got a VERY short week next week – we’re away from Wednesday lunchtime which takes it down to 2.5 days of which I’m on a course in London on Monday and recording a radio programme half of Tuesday morning – once travel time is taken into account. Shameless plug – the Express FM business show which will go out next Thursday at 19.00-20.00.
Before that I’m away on Saturday (and a very early start) and it’s the Whiteley Fireworks on Sunday – Shameless plug #2 – Funfair open 16.15, fireworks display from 19.15. Professional display and we normally have 3-5,000 spectators so it’s a big event locally. One of my favourite days of the year – ONCE it’s happened… up until then the jitters will be getting to me – all the things that could go wrong, the endless arguments in getting everything set up, coordinating with the local Rotary Club (without which it would not happen), getting enough stewards to run the event and so on.
Into this maelstrom, there are two VAT returns to make sure submitted that are not yet submitted. One the director is on holiday until next Monday so that’s cutting it fine for queries and the other is mine and, unfortunately, the bookkeeping outsource cannot start until after the due date for submission so that’s unexpectedly back in-house so the usual situation – frantically busy – but not just yet…
And I’ve got October’s own invoicing to pop in the mix!
Lots of positives for the week though. Had a business “MOT” with my good friends at Crimson Crab which went well, in fact (subject to final report) much better than I was expecting – must learn to value my own systems more than I do – so something I hope to be able to build upon.
Much postponed meeting with my solicitors in an executorship case was fruitful – the codicil to the will was mis-drafted by the Deceased’s solicitors and we need to repair the error without a cost to the Estate – we’re now moving forward again.
I’ve been able to help the daughter as well. International copyright question regarding a proposal she’s made to a prospective client kindly addressed by one of the south’s best IP lawyers. And done in the initial meeting time for a free consultation so thanks to Geoffrey Sturgess (shameless plug #3) for all his help.
Right. That’s enough for one post. Nose back to the grindstone…
Small contest – picture this week is in the place we’re going second half of next week – where is it? Only prize is a mention but better than nowt!
