Trump cards?

  • What has changed since yesterday?
  • Where are the positives?
  • What are the negatives?
  • What has changed since yesterday? Actually – in a business sense – nothing. Nothing will continue to change in the short term as the changeover isn’t for a couple of months yet. Also the Republican manifesto was short on specifics while going large on rhetoric. You still need to pay attention, that much’s for sure but things won’t change tomorrow. I can’t help thinking I would have liked to buy the Dow Jones and the Nikkei and a few Mexican Pesos because “corrections” (technical term for major downward change in valuations. Have you noticed you never get major positive corrections??? Just saying…) have a habit of reverting towards the mean. It’s never as bad as you think and it’s never as good as you hope! Where are the positives? If it really does become as bad as you think you’ve got a couple of months to wrap up your positions! Follow the likes of the voters who put him in power. Their confidence has skyrocketed so they are going to be very happy to buy. If you don’t agree with them it doesn’t matter – their money is as good as anyone else’s… Building materials – that will be one heck of a wall. Unless the Israelis have that sown up following the building of their own. Can’t see a third party government agreeing to pay for it but who knows! There could be a large increase in travel among those people who disagree – wishing to get away from it all. An interesting line in ju-ju dolls could prove popular. Also beers, wines and spirits for people to drown their sorrows. There are ALWAYS opportunities – you just have to look for them. What are the negatives? This could easily be longer than the rest of the article so I’ll try to exercise some restraint. The divisiveness of the vote (and that of Brexit – horrible word but a genie that will prove hard to put back in the bottle – in the UK) may increase tensions between racial/ ethnic/socioeconomic groups which would lead to polarising positions between those groups. This in turn could have negative connotations for the world economy if the US trade catches a cold. But that’s unlikely to impact on SMEs as much as the larger entities and there are no indications (so far) of a run on banks so (I hope) no repeat of 2007-08. Never say never but I’m not getting indications of a major downturn. Famous last words? Only time will tell. Competition time. It won’t come as a surprise to followers that the picture is of Mars. (I’m often thought to be on a different planet) But WHERE on Mars? Name in print is the best I can manage so not over-lucrative in prizes but then again… mars-11607_1280]]>
