Just a little bit tired
Just a little bit tired. Unlikely to do me any favours (f’ing US spellcheckers, can’t spell correctly) from an SEO perspective but very descriptive of the week.
Firstly let me say that (fingers crossed) it’s all going to plan.
But the emotional roller coaster referred to last week has left me truly and utterly cream crackered.
As might be said in London.
Which is leaving me staring at a screen and willing the keyboard to type the words for me.
Not gonna happen obviously so this week’s missive may be on the short side.
Mind you, I’ve said this in the past and then delivered a super looooong post but I’m yawning already and I’m only just over the 100 words.
Next time or the time after I intend to write about Lorraine’s task in getting utility bills and the like from the UK finally settled.
So that could easily run to ‘War and Peace’ length…
Just a little bit tired.
The rain not in Spain.
The first thing to point out is that the weather here has made a sudden change for the better.
Unless you like wearing rain macs and/or snow shoes.
There was the first glimpse on Saturday when it got above 20C and we walked to the hypermarket along the Paseo rather than through the town.
I would have sworn I’d mentioned the Paseo but trying to link to it isn’t working so presumably not.
Or maybe I’ve just not given it it’s proper name El Paseo Maritimo?
Back in December 2020 I talked about the works being done on the promenade and these have only just been completed.

I can’t find a royalty-free picture of the Paseo so here’s a cute puppy instead. Just a little bit tired. Image by chiemsee2016 from Pixabay
So for nearly six months you’ve not been able to walk along by the sea (other than on the beach) while all the pavements have been completely dismantled and rebuilt.
And most of the street furniture too.
And, despite the traffic on the local Facebook site, they’ve done a pretty good job imho.
People will moan about just about anything.
For instance, here am I moaning about people moaning on Facebook…
People were whinging about the concrete seats before the bl..dy things were in use!
Okay. Or vale (pronounced sort of like ‘ballet’) as they (we) say here.
Actually, thinking about it, my entire blog for the last six months has been an extended moan.
I’d like to think it’s a useful guide to the trials and tribulations you might come across in seeking to move self and business to a non-English speaking (I’m talking services and utilities, not cafes and bars) European country.
And some useful tips on how to succeed.
He types with his fingers firmly crossed.
Actually, one thing that went exceptionally smoothly was sorting our healthcare.
Smoothly by our standards anyway.
Having put it off and put it off for way too long, we’d asked for recommendations from our property adviser friends.
The company recommended is – paradoxically – owned by a large UK private healthcare provider.
Filled in an online application and Lorraine received an email detailing two options and inviting us to drop in if we wanted to discuss matters further.
Which she duly replied to and was greeted with total silence.
This is not unknown and in this circumstance we usually forward the response to me and I forward it on.
Sometimes her email doesn’t send outbound properly.
No ideas why and it’ll be something that can be looked at once everything has settled down (a bit more).
My reply was received (as hers was not) and so we duly (not dully as I originally put, and it was definitely sunny) walked to the office yesterday.
Which is situated not in some plush city centre offices but one of the shop units under one of the apartment blocks on the road from the Motorway (eventually) to the Port.
Just three members of staff. Then, anyway.
And more helpful our one could not have been.
Despite the fact the notice on the door said one person only we were both welcomed in.
And had a very nice discussion with a lady who (I think) was Spanish with a family name that came from Saxony in Deutschland and a christian name even she doesn’t know why her parents chose it! Might have been Greek, might be from Holland, even might be after a Spanish saint.
In English.
She told me to expect a phone call from the underwriting team – in the next 48 hours.
They phoned same afternoon, the decision was made on the phone after our discussion and I received email confirmation this morning.
And I noticed an email from the local lady a little bit earlier.
Can’t say fairer than that…
Which actually meant I could take a long standing item OFF the to do (or to don’t) list.
Shock horror. Hold the front page!
I was talking about the weather.
Before I got sidetracked by something positive – sorry, won’t do it again 🤣🤣🤣
After Saturday was Sunday.
Oddly enough it works the same way here.
But Sunday’s weather was a step backwards – cooler, overcast and blowing a hoolie.
That jacked up the worn out feeling a touch – just a little bit tired (-er) than before.
And we’d been told that the completion on the Spanish purchase was going ahead on the date in the contract (i.e., tomorrow).
In Marbella but our solicitor has full signing powers and authority to transfer the utility direct debits from the vendor to our Spanish bank account.
If this was the UK, you’d have to do it all yourself. As I said above, Lorraine gets to voice off sometime soon.
And the weather is just getting better and better.
Oddly midday is not the hottest part of the day, about 15.00-16.00 is the peak.
Which meant the shorts got an airing yesterday – lunchtime AND evening!
So will I be going out for our Thursday evening meal in shorts tonight?
My weather app is showing temperatures at or above 20C at midnight so it may well be.
Mind you, we have three weather apps between us and they all disagree.
I think it was Sunday when mine said it was raining at the time – which it definitely wasn’t.
Still. I could bore for my country (countries?) about the weather and my shorter-than-usual post is over 1,000 words.
Well over 1,000 words.
Just a little bit tired. But hopefully on the right track.
