New year, new resolutions?

Are you the sort of person who makes New Year’s resolutions?

And more importantly, are you the sort of person who carries them through?

I’m sat here writing, yawning like my jaw is going to dislocate and awaiting someone dropping some missing paperwork in before I can even think of a nap…

It’s the regular (usually) first Thursday of each month where I am on the road by soon after 06.00 for a networking meeting 45 miles down the road followed by my monthly session with life coach Becki.

So now, by mid-afternoon, the concentration is beginning to wander, the eyelids are getting heavier and heavier and the reclining sofa beckons for a few minutes’ recharge.

Except

some “stuff” is being dropped in

after 15.00.

WHAT does that mean? 15.05? 17.30? 21.00? God forbid. Seriously, your guess is as good as mine!

That was my first networking meeting of the year this morning.

Feels like ages – oh, yes, that’s because it IS ages since the last one.

It’s amazing – even a little frightening – how much traffic there is on the road at soon after 06.00.

I mean. Where’s it all going? And WHY???

Maybe I’m a little naive but what businesses are starting on or before 07.00 of a morning? And why do they all congregate on the M27 near Southampton Airport?

Ah yes, the M27. Next recipient of the “smart motorway” treatment.

I mean. What do those words actually mean?

I understand putting the hard shoulder into use as a extra lane all or part of the day and introducing variable speed limits.

That’s fair enough.

But smart motorway and same not-necessarily-smart motorists doesn’t automatically improve the traffic flows.

It just causes abject confusion in the “middle lane crawlers” – 2nd or 3rd lane, which is the MIDDLE ffs?

Or straddle both, just to be sure…

And it’s not on its own going to help at our local junction where, several hours of the day, the local roads DON’T have the capacity to disperse the traffic leaving said motorway.

So will it STILL be one of the South’s biggest car parks much of the day?

Only time will tell.

New venue for this morning’s networking.

Dudsbury Golf Club.

Not that it leaves much impression at 07.00. Could be anywhere really with sunrise after 08.00 couldn’t it?

And not all that many golfers by the time I left, lots of frost on the greens though.

Have I expressed my lack of understanding of golf in a previous post?

Can’t remember. But I’m in the Mark Twain “Good walk ruined” camp I suppose.

Also I cannot imagine what I’d have to do to find the time for a full round.

Maybe one of the golfing readers can help. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease?

Around 90 people in the room this morning. Bit cozy, one more table than was really comfortable IMHO.

Or not so humble?

Which brings me back to Becki and New Year’s resolutions.

Actually – completely by accident, totally unplanned.

Now we’ll take as read the Accountant and January love/hate thing – I hate January and/or clients and their leaving things until the last minute and I love somewhere around the middle of February when I can ACTUALLY start the things I ought to have been doing in January.

And hopefully get to the end of February only a few days adrift of everyone else. I do so need emojis on this programme.

Becki was (rightly) giving me serious grief this morning.

It’s oh so easy to play the victim. It’s not MY fault, I’m a martyr to circumstance. Nuffin’ to do with ME squire!

But there has to come a point that you take responsibility.

It’s YOUR life. It’s YOU that can make the difference…

Ooooooo – a serious point. Sorry, I’ll try not to do it again.

And the resolutions?

Not done them for years.

Previously because they were so soon broken maybe, but lately?

Plan/re-plan, adapt and react. Don’t leave it a year.

Life’s too short.

New Year's resolution

There may be trouble ahead. let’s face the music and dance.
