The asymmetrical output of reality

Sigh.

Holiday over.

First the anticipation.

Then it’s over…

Not fair really.

Weeks of anticipation (and frustration as no time to plan what can be done upon arrival) then two weeks of activity (give or take the demon stomach bugs of getting off the heavily beaten tourist track) then return and within a day or two it begins to fade, beaten out of you by clients and obstreperous software suppliers.

I cannot speak for you but I find it takes (almost) forever to relax once you’re there and no time at all to wind yourself back up again upon your return!

There has GOT to be a time soon when it takes LONGER to chill out than the holiday itself.  It’s just a matter of time (or lack thereof).

Definitely recommend a visit to Georgia (ex-USSR rather than US state for new readers). The daughter came with us for the centre part of the journey – before flying off on an all-inclusive visit to Indonesia funded by the country’s tourist board. All right for some is a possible reaction but, begrudgingly and through clenched teeth (jealous – moi???), she’s done the graft so she’s earned the reward and – as her finance director – SHE will be paying ME at some point in the future so 10 of of 10 for novelty there!

The first two days back got a lot done – albeit “stuff” that ought to have been done before we went away but hey! they all count don’t they? And the main reason they weren’t done before we went is down to the software suppliers referred to earlier (bad workman blaming tools? Moi, again?) but then Wednesday got in the way.

It presumably looked achievable when the appointments were dropped in but the reality was I forgot to allow any time for (chargeable) work. Poot and dang! I actually DID get stuff done but at 17.30 I think I’d managed four minutes earning in the day so far…

Ah well. And then today. By today I’d chipped away at the easy tasks (actually they were the most urgent in fact so it’s not JUST me procrastinating) which just left two less than straightforward tasks to deal with of which one then immediately moved itself a couple of days down the line into next week leaving just the one.

The one I’d have preferred to move to next week (or next month, next year or never if truth be told). Charity, fund accounting, lots of funds. Extra analyses due to the additional dimension with around seven times the number of things that need to tie up period-to-period and updates in their bookkeeping software and my statutory accounts software. I’m sure I’ve whinged about it before. Fixed fee so if I spend lots of time it’s my own lookout and, being a charity, a totally unrealistic fee as part of my “giving back” to the local community.

Sigh and double sigh – nose back to the grindstone once this missive is complete and needles and haystacks time in trying to get the prior year to look something like it looked in last year’s accounts as then I can rely on the start point for the current figures but client has three adjustments missing from the last two or three years (which I have tracked down, thankfully) and my software seems to have thrown a wobbler as some inter-fund transfers which are quite clearly visible in the journal summary are most definitely NOT on the !*!* accounts, just to spice the process up a little.

And, of course I’ve been back a few days now so I’m fair game for clients to consider I MUST have caught up to date by now so can I just… you know the drill.

That’s enough for today.

When’s our next holiday?
