Seasonal affective disorder
Seasonal affective disorder – SAD to lots of us.
It’s bright and sunny today (well it is at the moment after chucking it down first thing). And it’s going to rain again tonight.
So I’m cheerful?
No. If only…
Went for my lunchtime walk to try and soak up the sun’s rays – well that was the idea anyway.
Put on the thick coat – outside temperature nominally 6C but stick a few degrees of windchill on that and the sensation is marginally above freezing.
And it’s blowing a hooley.
Or a hoolie.
I do love the English language. Two spellings and neither in this !*!* spellchecker (well they are now)…
It could be blowing a hoodie but possible not.
Expression of unknown etymology but a suggestion that it could (in one source) be a diminutive of hooligan.
Who knows but the wind still blows.
Ha! Rhyming rubbish. It’s a gift…
And because it’s blowing and the sensation of being near freezing I wear the woolly hat and the thick gloves.
Net effect is that almost all of the skin is hidden from the sun and the additional melotonin and serotonin produced by the endeavour is pretty much zilch!
So that worked well, eh?
The perils of an office bound existence.
It’s even depressing looking at the long range forecast – my phone is showing rain symbols for most of the next ten days in this locality.
Seasonal affective disorder 💘you not.
Not helped by the various flood warnings, dire news about the coronavirus and the Brexit negotiations getting under way either.
It’s enough to fcuk up anyone.
Still, one thing we CAN look forward to is our visit to the daughter in Gibraltar this weekend.
High of 19C and overnight low of 13C this weekend which will be rather pleasant.
Mind you, even there is a 40% possibility of rain for a couple of the days.
Maybe we’re taking it with us…
🤣
I was going to say I’ve done no networking this week
but as I spent most of yesterday morning in one to one meetings what I REALLY mean is
I’m running low on my cooked breakfasts.
I’m seriously getting withdrawal symptoms and I don’t think next week is any better because we don’t get back until late on Tuesday.
Actually next week is going to be “interesting” full stop from a work perspective with Gibraltar, Pain Clinic and Friday off leaving around a day and a half to actually do stuff.
Actually that’s a very good lesson.
Previously I would have been very concerned that I wasn’t “working hard enough” and would have started to fret.
Or worse.
The fretting wouldn’t alter what I did but would just serve to make me feel guilty.
Because all the hours of overwork in the tax return season is under the carpet by now and pretty much disregarded now we’re four weeks down the line.
But it shouldn’t be.
I need the relaxation and I need to stop feeling so damned guilty about it.
Period.
Another manifestation of seasonal affective disorder.
And it’s the four day weeks that are giving me the time to reconnect with myself.
My business strategy coach considers that I ought to be spending one third of my business life working, one third planning and product development and one third admin.
But the excessive hours of the past just meant that I spent inefficient hours on the working bit, scrabbling around on the admin bit and the planning, etc. went straight out of the window.
And that is the byproduct of my earlier working days, my Alan days.
I thought I’d already mentioned this but either I haven’t or my search skills are not up to the task.
Tell you what – I’ll come back to that next time or the time after.
It’s a whole topic in itself and one of the chapters of the next book so let’s give it a proper go – not just tack it on to the end of an existing 600 word rant.
Ooooooooooooooooooo, there’s a thought.
Because we’re away tomorrow and because we always like our something with chips for our Friday dinner we will be transposing it to tonight.
So just three hours to scampi and chips – something indulgent to look forward to…
Must be nap time.
