Senior moment

Senior moment – I’m convinced I had a much better title from an SEO perspective earlier.

But I’m bu99ered if I can remember it now…

It’s been a rather long and arduous week – despite the bank holiday and I am so, so glad it’s monthly day off day tomorrow.

Another age related “thing”

is the increasing time it takes to get over excessive hours, etc.

In a previous life I’m sure twelve hour days were the norm and a lie in at weekends was all I needed to recharge.

But not now.

Okay, I fully admit it’s not all work work but twelve hour days stewarding the Fareham Music Festival still FEELS like it.

What with one thing and another it’s over a week of excessively long days with not so much recovery.

And I’m totally cream crackered as they say in Cockney…

Not helped by the prevailing weather being from the east.

But, as life coach Becki tells me, the older you are the longer it takes to recover.

Mind you I think the feeling at the moment suggests an age equal to the present word count of 188…

Ho hum.

And where is my bus pass?

I am not looking forward to being old enough for reduced and/or free rates on public transport in a few years’ time.

Nothing to do with age though – and everything to do the with the near total lack of public transport where we live!

Can’t remember (see, another senior moment) whether I mentioned having the pensioner portion at a chip shop on the Isle of Wight?

Lovely food and just the right amount

but oh so bruising to the ego that no one queried my age. Laughing face emoji…

Almost forgot what I was going to whinge about this week.

Blog posts

Both this one and the serious one.

Without exception (that I can remember – potential senior moment) everyone says that the posts are amusing (rant-y one)/useful (serious one)

so WHY are people soooooooooooooo reluctant to sign up to get them regularly?

I don’t scam people, I don’t inundate people’s inboxes (weekly and whenever they’re published) and I don”t try and cross-sell/up-sell.

Maybe I ought to? Maybe I should be less whiter than white from a GDPR perspective?

Half the time it feels like I’m the only one playing by the rules.

I’m pretty sure I’m now receiving more emails than I used to before the introduction of the Regulations – even from businesses I know…

This was supposed to make life easier.

Ho hum squared.

Some lovely Schubert on the radio which does help the relaxation a bit.

Oh and the other rant-y thing:

Isn’t it good business practice to acknowledge receipt of proposals

and to let someone know if it is of interest or not?

I’ve made a number of introductions for Die Tochter regarding social media creation and curation.

She has prepared proposals, sent them

  • and then there’s a black hole
  • the silence is deafening
  • a simple no thanks is fine
  • disappointing but fine
  • but nothing???

Nothing at all. I’d LIKE to think I’d never treat a potential supplier like that.

I can almost second guess the why – because it’s a feature of all too much nowadays.

The expectation of something for nothing (or something very similar).

The GOOGLE effect as I’ve started to christen it.

Why do I need to pay £x for your services when I can get everything I need on Google?

Or someone in another country will do it for a fraction of what you are proposing.

And off they go to a disaster of their own creation.

But it’s NEVER their fault for skimping and having unrealistic expectations.

I blame the political outlook of late for the denigration of experts (whenever said experts do not come to the same conclusion as your ideology) and we professionals do need to stick together.

Otherwise we all get picked off one by one.

Ask yourself –

what do you want your children or children’s children to be doing for work?

And if it involves meaningful employment for a reasonable wage think again how you think of experts.

To he that has shall be given and to he that has not shall be taken away.

Never been able to understand that quote.

Maybe a misquote, maybe another senior moment in the great river of life.
