A doing week

This week has, in the main, been a doing week. After a couple of weeks with wall to wall appointments it’s been a novel experience.

I have of course been softwared a number of times…

I’m sure you know what I mean.

Depending on when one week starts and finishes we were expecting to collect travelling daughter from somewhere and have lunch on the way back on the Saturday.

She seems to be being flighted and/or trained in the same way I’m being softwared.

She was supposed to be returning on Friday evening from Berlin to Birmingham International via Dusseldorf, get the train to somewhere near and either her mother or I would go and collect her.

EXCEPT. Flight to Dusseldorf was delayed and delayed and delayed. Late enough to know that the connection wasn’t going to be kept. And no one at the check-in desk at TXL to ask either.

Ten out of ten for customer service there then…

Eventually gets to Dusseldorf, connecting flight has gone but now some staff to deal with the connectees (if there is such a word).

Apparently there were other flights to the UK that evening but none in the alliance this airline belonged to. So it was cheaper (really???) to put her and four likewise-inconvenienced people up in a hotel overnight and fly them on their own flights next day.

She managed to get a flight to Heathrow but obviously her train ticket for that day was wasted and it’ll be up to someone’s insurers if she gets any recompense.

And guess what? The following day’s flight was delayed as well!

Can you really MAKE this stuff up?

Now I had made a few assumptions re public transport which this delay put a spanner to and so (reluctantly because I do NOT want her to expect me to do this every time. Rod for own back, etc.) I decided to collect her from Terminal 2 as it was the best way of ensuring lunch wasn’t in mid-afternoon!

Aren’t I kind?

Nope. You’re right. Just my own stomach I was interested in.

Found a lovely pub for lunch though, just into Buckinghamshire (unsurprisingly not in the spellchecker), beer kept in barrels behind the bar and very pleasant food.

White Horse, Hedgerley if you’re interested and grateful thanks to the CAMRA Good Beer Guide app for flagging it up.

This is where I list the various things I’ve done this week to make you think what a super/knowledgeable guy I am…

  • Whether to buy the freehold of a pub as an investment
  • R&D claim
  • Sorting the filleted accounts for a client that previously had to be filed in paper but a change to the taxonomies (oddly IS in the spellchecker – didn’t expect that one) may mean that we can file online (this is one where I’m being softwared but fingers crossed as the support team have sent me a reply to my query)
  • Fireworks meeting chaired (Sunday week and it’s about now the edginess sets in until the first one goes fizz or bang)
  • Last few items on the statement of account for a probate matter identified and the relevant people queried

Oh, and following a phone call at lunchtime, wrote a presentation for a networking meeting for tomorrow morning (don’tcha just lurve the oodles of notice).

Passes the time I suppose?

Airplane at terminal

Says it’s Heathrow. Pretty sure it’s somewhere in the UK at least…
