When the irresistible force meets the immovable object

Or, in this case, the default diary runs into expediency.

The more I think about it the more I like the default diary.

It enables me to schedule in all those things that are essential but don’t – immediately anyway – earn money.

Like research, training, reading and even time off to force me to slow down for at least one day each month…

I think I may have already mentioned that May is (euphemistically) “challenging”. It’s going to be another bumper billing month (assuming I can finish the work).

And thereby lies the challenge.

Lack of time meets my monthly day off.

The day off OUGHT to be sacrosanct.

More fool me but I do seem to do a minimum of 10 hour days – week in week out – so, since a very long time ago, one Friday a month is marked out in the calendar and I fritter the day away doing not very much, get annoyed about it but it does help keep me in touch with my sanity.

So no question then?

But wait, I already take time out to stop the ever increasing deluge of emails running away with the weekend as I do on the weekend itself so what’s the issue with taking an hour or two out and catching up with the backlog of work?

Well, that cardinal rule of work comes into effect – the work expands to fill the time. So using up two hours tomorrow will make no difference on next week whatsoever.

Or is it just me?

Actually the time spent not hunched over the keyboard might be beneficial.

Because I really could do with a break and a slowdown.

Last weekend was the Fareham Music Festival. Small local festival with competition for vocals and instruments and people from grade 1 and below to Seniors.

We help run it. Luckily we hold it over the May Day Bank Holiday as otherwise we wouldn’t get a weekend at all!

Friday evening until 20.30, all day Saturday and Sunday until 16.00 but pop back at 18.00 to help break it down.

Front of house and photographer. Yet another talent in the repertoire…

Have a look at my holiday snaps from Madrid a few weeks back on Instagram!

I have – nearly – 500 followers, the daughter around 140,000. Go figure.

Although this year I DID skive off on the Saturday for one of my hobbies. Mind you, what with an 06.30 get up and not getting back in until 23.30, it’s not as if I actually benefited from not being there! So there.

I have a seriously achy back this week. Mostly I put this down to NOT doing the mowing on Monday.

It’s a karma type thing.

If I HAD done the mowing I’d have given myself backache so – having wheedled my way out of doing it – I’ve got the backache anyway!

And the world continues to turn. Either that or it’s because I’ll not be doing tomorrow on my day off instead. Reeaally need emojis on these posts…

Sigh. That’ll do for this week. If I’m lucky I might get to let the recliner sofa do it’s work before dinner.
